How Perspiration, Intuition and Consistent Daily Practice Cultivate Good Fortune

When asked, “why aren’t you where you want to be in life,” or “why aren’t you at the level of financial success you dream of?” – people often answer negatively; choosing to focus on what’s standing in their way or stopping them from achieving their goals. Maybe they believe that others have just ‘gotten lucky’ or been in the right place at the right time. Certainly there are some components of timing and opportunity. However following our lifes’ passion and attaining success is not just a matter of chance, but rather making a series of strategic choices in both our professional and personal lives.
To truly be successful, we must deconstruct and emulate the mindset and daily habits that create ‘flow’ and ‘mastery’ in super-achievers from all walks of life—athletes, artists, scientists, doctors, bankers, lawyers; Identifying universal core tenets, lifestyle choices and character traits that lead to ‘good fortune.’
Being in the ‘Right Place, at the Right Time’ is more likely to happen if you take a macro-view and then seek out the specific people, places and industries that will help you grow personally and professionally. This blog will help you increase your ‘luck’ by guiding you through a personalized analysis of industries that are trending vs. shrinking; geographical locations that are booming not bottoming out; and teaching you ways to make face-to-face connections and social networks with people who are smarter, more successful, have more expertise than you and can therefore help you get to where you want to be in 10-years.
I am an exercise enthusiast and understand first-hand the importance of ‘perspiration’ as a daily practice that is directly linked to my success. The minutes that most business leaders spend working out are often the only real alone time they will get all day. The daily workout is a time to reflect on what is going on in your life, listen to your inner-voices in a quiet, uncluttered space and get an emotional read on how you feel about things that are happening in your life. It is also a time to connect the dots of seemingly unrelated ideas and strategize a fresh game plan to seize the day. “Eureka: I’ve found it!” moments are most likely to happen when you are exercising. Albert Einstein said of E=MC2: “I thought of it while riding my bicycle.”
I will also explore how the choices you make in day-to-day life manifest a consistent pattern of ‘winning’ that some onlookers might chalk up to being ‘lucky’ but that you know is not merely coincidence. I will teach you how to ‘toot your own horn’ tactfully and remind your peers and superiors that your success and good fortune is not accidental—but in fact a direct result of your competence and determination to be the best that you can be.

Great post! It’s so important to focus on the positive and not allow minor setbacks to prevent you from reaching your potential. Looking forward to reading more from you!
Thank you Erica. So true! Life is full of setbacks, minor and major, but our power lies in how we respond to them. Most setbacks do have a silver lining and some can even accelerate your growth and prosperity.
It’s refreshing to have someone who was hugely successful on ‘Wall Street’ finally willing to step down from that Ivory Tower and share some of the secrets and practical advice of ways to cultivate good fortune and create financial security with everyday, middle-class people on ‘Main Street’. Thank you Rob Mancuso!
It seems that in this never-ending recession that everyone I know is really jittery about their financial and overall future but frozen like deer in the headlights–clueless about what steps to take in order to re-direct their destiny. People seem very panicky and that stress is contagious. This blog is an antidote for our collective anxiety.
The Create Your Own Luck blog makes me optimistic because reading it breaks that cycle of hopeless thinking which is paralyzing. It makes me realize that it is possible to kick-start a new chapter in my life and gives me a strategy on how to do it. I’m excited to follow future posts and share this link with my friends so we can all start to be more positive and pull ourselves out of the financial doldrums that seem to be bringing everyone’s spirits down these days.
Thank you Christopher! Your positive attitude is contagious. These are very difficult times but we have a lot more control than we think. I look forward to sharing some strategies that worked very well for me over the years by helping me stand out from the pack.
Whoa, tihgns just got a whole lot easier.
Heck yeah this is exactly what I ndeeed.
Excellent blog. I absolutely agree with importance of positive attitude and positive energy. I experience it in my personal and professional life. When I interact with people who has positive attitude towards life and business, it helps me bring the best out of me professionaly and professionally. This, of course, usually leads to success.
Looking forward to reading your future postings.
Thank you Ugur. I’m finalizing the Table of Contents for the book and I’d like to pick your brain on what has worked so well for you. No only do I believe it’s your attitude and energy but also I’m sure it has so much to do with work ethic and emphasis on quality in all your interactions. God knows, creating your own good fortune is a lot of work but if there is a way to make certain things habitual it tends to flow more easily and build on itself. Let’s explore how most people can make that happen with some guidance and knowledge.

Many many qulatiy points there.
Rob, having known you both as a colleague and as a friend for many years now, I feel in a position to attest to the fact that you don’t just preach, but put to practice the words you’ve put to paper. Lest anyone mistake that you’re someone who as just been lucky and understands how to capitalize on that luck, I can attest to this not being the case. I’ve seen your struggles, and they’ve been deep ones, death, divorce, self identity and not only did you rise like a phoenix, stronger for each of your struggles, but I watched you manage each of these with much grace, despite the pain. That is about attitude. Funny the harder you work on your attitude, the luckier you get! Thank you for taking the time to deconstruct and share what you’ve learned, I very much look forward to your upcoming postings.
Kudos, my friend. Good insight into human behavior. I’ve always had a theory that people can sense other people’s attitudes — not so much by what gets said or how it’s stated or even by their facial expressions. Rather, we have an inner sense that is able to pick up on another person’s attitude, kind of like a wild animal is able to sense fear in its prey. I know your background. Reflect on how many times you’ve had someone sit across your desk interviewing for a job, and no matter how impressive their resume is or how intellectually bright they are, you rejected them based on certain observed behaviors that imply arrogance, insecurity, disingenuousness, and so on?
That’s way more clever than I was exptecing. Thanks!
This does look promising. I’ll keep cmonig back for more.
